Susanne Tobler is a culinary entrepreneur with a Master in Science.
Because everything in life happens for a reason. And that reason is usually physics.
Susanne "Sue" Tobler's life experiences are an overwhelming interweavement of scientific (a Master in Physics from ETH Zürich, work experience as a natural catastrophe modeller in the Reinsurance industry), organizational (over fifteen years of planning events and parties for up to 6000 people) and creative (doing caterings since the age of eleven and cooking in restaurants as a hobby) strands. In summer 2014 she found the ultimate way to professionally combine these three passions by founding her company Tobler Tastes, which specializes in culinary events, caterings and temporary gastronomy projects around the topic "Science & Cooking".
The resulting cooking style is innovative and surprising yet simple and natural. Realizing that cooking is not only an art but also a science, Sue thrives to understand the why's behind the how's of every recipe and technique and exploits this knowledge to its full extent. The result is beautiful dishes that are smart and experimental without being forced, feeling effortless yet refined.
With her elaborate background and experience in event organization, Sue is convinced that eating is not only about the food you taste, but also about the venue you are in, the ambiance you feel and mostly the social experience. As someone who already insisted in bringing her own tableware to a school camp she cooked for at the age of eleven, she is meticulous when it comes to every aspect about an event or catering - from the choice of the dishes to the building of tailor-made tables.
Together with her team and partners, she plans, organizes and executes innovative temporary gastronomy projects and bespoke caterings on a freelance basis - just like the completely sold out TASTELAB in May 2016 on the Polyterrasse in collaboration with ETH Zürich.
